Anyone running 1920x1200 through DVI successfully?

#1 Post by ricerocket » Fri Dec 14, 2007 1:04 am

I got a MiniDock today and hooked up my new 24" monitor. I first tried it via VGA undocked, and it had some serious flicker issues when doing LCD testing. Got the dock today, and hooked it up. Works for the most part, except the monitor cuts out about once every 30 seconds.

I read this article at Thinkwiki: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_DVI_throughput

And it says, try a shorter or better DVI cable. So. Has anyone bought a DVI cable that works well with this?

It's a T43 w/ Radeon x300 and a 2878 MiniDock.

According to a forum member JHaislet, the T43 should work just fine with a WUXGA external monitor. I would suggest you to try a different cable, and to ask him if you need further instructions.

I do it every day in my office (With a T42/9600). I've had 3 different T42s that all work fine. I use the minidock - but I've also used the Dock II.

I figured it out.

There's an option in the Catalyst drivers that's "reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays". It's supposed to help computers with slow TMDS processors deal with high resolutions.

Who knew that you'd have to disable that feature (counter-intuitively) to get it to work...

Mine works either way.

The optional timing is non-standard. It is used to keep the DVI bandwidth within spec - but most DVI (TMDS) chips work fine beyond spec.

It makes sense that some monitors would not support it.

Works great here with a t40p and dock II on my fresh 24' monitor.

However I'm having issue not being able to set external monitor as primary display, anyone have solution for this?

I regularly use a Samsung 244T 24" display at 1920x1200 with T60p and T43p using their respective docking stations with both DVI and VGA connections.

I have used the above mentioned monitor as both secondary and primary display under Windows XP. Dual monitor support under Linux is a different story.

Silly thing, but have you tried Fn-F7 to switch the primary display? I think you will need to disable the dual monitor first through Display Properties/Settings if its already enabled. Good luck!

Hi thanks for the tips, for unknown reason, most of my Fn shortcuts don't work anymore (standby, bluetooth, screen brightness and thinklight still work but not the others).

I've try to set things in 'Presentation Director' but I can't find the wanted resolution, only 4:3 resolution are shown (upto 2048x1536) thus I can't set it to desired resolution.

Any known way to add resolutions to proposed list in presentation director or maybe another workarround? (I need to check if there is something in the bios)

Try re-installing the "Hotkey utility" again and see if it helps with the Fn shortcuts.

I have disabled the advanced functionality of the Presentation Director and have Fn/F7 just switch between internal LCD and the external monitor now. I think there is an option for doing that. This way I can use Windows' Display Properties to select and configure the monitors and have more control over the resolution.

IHTH.
