T42 bought in July 2004 from EDU store Warranty Question

#1 Post by He-Man » Wed Nov 17, 2004 3:43 pm

I know a few people bought T-series from EDU stores here. I jsut checked my warranty status and it says it expires a 1 year from when I bought it. But I swear when I talked with the guy in the phone he said it came with a 3yr warranty from the EDU store.

Anyone know anything?

Model number?

E.g., 2373? 2378? 2379?

All model 2378 machines come with a one year warranty from IBM.

You can add two years of EZServ warranty for $220.

I bought it through IBM's educational pricing program as a student and distinclty remember being told it came with a 3 year warranty, except for the battery, which was one year. The website currently says 1 year/1year, but it has changed considerably since July and they may have changed their policy.

Is there anyone else who purchased around that time, I remember a few people were purchasing before going to school, that remembers this or am I just making this all up?

I can't help but think that you're confusing the machine you bought with other models that have longer warranties.

Besides which, WHO told you it had a 3 year warranty? IBM or someone at your school?

i called the edu pricing line at IBM (i got the number from the IBM website) and placed an order over the phone. IBM charged my CC and some weeks later it arrived in an IBM box from Hong Kong or somewhere around there.

i had the quote they guy emailed me in my old EDU email address that got shutdown b/c I graduated in May so I can't access it (kicking self). And before someone says anything, I'm now in grad school so i wasn't working the system.

I believe that the system you are talking about has ALWAYS been shown on the IBM site as having a 1 year warranty... HOWEVER, IBM salespeople are notoriously known for making mistakes on details.... if you feel that the salesperson told you that the system had a 3yr. warranty on the phone, then CALL IBM, explain the situation to them... if you present your case calmly and clearly, they MAY extend the warranty... let us know....

Ditto on Leon's comments. Never trust a salesperson and always go with the tabook. Besides, if you had gotten an extended warranty it should have come with some sheet of paper specifying that fact.
