Upgrading CPU....
Im upgrading my CPU from a 1.8 (which I belive is a 745 Dothan in my T-42p?) to a 2.1 Dothan 765 as the 765 has the same bus speed and temperature watt as my 1.8 (given that my current cpu is a Dothan 745)
Im still reading up on this, but I assume the 765 is a staright swap in, but my question; are different bus speed CPUs interchangeable? Such as the 770 or even the 780?? With bus speed at 533 and slightly higher voltage and temperature watts...

Nope, you need to stick with CPUs with 400MHz bus speed.

Thanks, I was doing some more research and the 533 speed are for T43+. I guess 2.1 is the fastest I can go...now comes the challenge of finding a 765....

Just a little input...since I've owned T42p machines in almost any guise, shape and form.
There was some slight performance difference between 1.8 and 2.1
No difference that I could notice along those lines between 2.0 and 2.1
A lot more heat in 2.1 when compared to anything else...
Unless you really want the "maxed out feeling", given the expense you're about to incur, you'll do very well with 2.0.
Those are just my personal experiences and observations. I do wish you the best of luck whichever route you decide to take. T42p machines are, and will always be, one of my favourite models.

Thanks for the information. I guess I am going for that "maxed out feeling" with the 7200 rpm, 2gig ram. Only thing left is max cpuajkula66 wrote:Just a little input...since I've owned T42p machines in almost any guise, shape and form.

Still searching for one though. I see alot of 1.7 and 1.8's barely and 2.1's
