t41p Bios update question

#1 Post by ravenjim » Mon Dec 17, 2007 4:17 pm

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a used t41p 2374-GGU laptop off ebay and I believe the bios needs updated from current version 2.11 It came loaded with windows vista ultimate. The original wireless B card is a little quirky at times and it doesn't recognize bluetooth on the modem card.
My question is, has anyone used Lenova's thinkVantage System Update for your laptops? Can I use this to update my bios from such an older version? I plan on getting an atheros card in near future and might need it for that also. Thanks

I use it all the time for various machines I'm putting together. It is a little buggy, but it is easier than dealing with the drivers one at a time. I have never used it with Vista on a T4x machine, so I don't know whether any or all the IBM drivers are OK. I would download the BIOS and embedded controller updates separately and use a bootable CD.

richk,

You said "I would download the BIOS and embedded controller updates separately and use a bootable CD" Should I download the diskette version or the windows version and then burn to a cd ? How do you make the cd a bootable one. Thanks, Jim

Downloaded the diskette bios files from Lenovo and made bootable cd. Executed the bios upgrade file from cd and agreed to terms. Got a "disk error-copy to another disk" message. I'm lost for now!

Path of least resistance.... buy a USB floppy (cheap on eBay) and do the update from the floppy drive.

Path that involves more work... go through this forum and look for messages BIOS updating, its had quite alot of coverage at various times.

Cheers,

Bill B.
