Keyboard on a T 23, number of keys
Keyboard on a T 23, number of keys
Hi there,
I am thinking to buy a used T 23 in the US, for use with Swedish keyboard
drivers. The problem is we have 28 letters in our alphabet and normally
our keyboards have one extra key.
I have a 600X which when sold in Sweden has 86 keys. Once I bought an
american keyboard for it, and it had only 85 keys. I had to make up my
mind on which one I could do without. (And settled for ><).
My questions are; how many keys are on a T23 when sold in the US?
Do several T-models have the same keyboard?
Any swedes here?

I'm not Swedish (although some people mix this up sometimes), but I think normally the US keyboards have one key less (they got the wrong keyboard
). Probably you can order thinkpads with different keyboards in the US, too.
Does the Swedish keyboard have äöü, and å on it?
I know the German does have one additional key as well. I got äöü, and even àéè on it, since it's Swiss (the last three wierd letters are for French).

FRU: Swedish or Finnish 02K5736 02K5707 (about 50 Euros).

Well 50 Euros is OK. I checked on the cost of a keyboard for my 600 a
few years ago. Then it was 200 Euros to buy in Sweden. A bit hefty
for a 500 Euro notebook.
This machine is actually for a friend of mine who is an airline pilot flying
frequently to New York. I have found several interesting used T-series
machines at a local shop in NY that have particularly good deals for airline
crews. He can order through their web-shop and have the puter waiting
for him on arrival at their hotel. That may be tougher to arrange directly
with IBM.
I´ll have to check with J & R if they can get him a Swedish keyboard too.
Yes it is the Å, Ä and Ö that brings our alphabet up to 28 characters.
The way all those are crammed onto only one extra key is by doubling
up others, and shifting around. So I have < and > on the same key, but
one of them needs "shift".
Thanks for the link and suggestions!

Lars,
Be wary when dealing with J and R in NYC!
Only purchase using a credit card, even if they offer a discount for "cash", and check everything three times.
If your friend the pilot is going to use the Thinkpad as an "Electronic Flight Bag", be aware that most of the EFB programs on the market don't support other than US keyboards.
If your friend, or you, have any questions pertaining to using a Thinkpad as an EFB, feel free to email me directly.
Regards,
James
