Cable Modem not recognized

#1 Post by GZheng12 » Thu Nov 18, 2004 12:37 am

I received my T42 2378 FVU today. I'm so happy. The first thing I do is to update my laptop via Internet. I am currently AOL Cable Broadband user. I unplugged the Ethernet line from cable modem, which is now connected with my desktop PC, and plugged into T42, but the TP Ethernet card cannot detect the cable modem. Anyone has some clue about this? Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Yigo

you usually have to power-cycle the cable modem after connecting it to a different machine......

You may even have to get your ISP to reset the modem. Before you do this, however, get a router (fast!). That way you can connect both your machines at the same time *and* be safer behind a hardware firewall.

I appreciate your messages. I don't know which one is faster, the wireless network or direct wired network? Anyone can help me with that? My TP T42 has a/b/g wireless options. Thanks.

you will lose "some" speed with wireless, but with a cable connection, you will always be plenty fast......
