t42 lcd flop

#1 Post by z142 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 8:33 am

LCD flops in hinges in my 2 years old T42. There is free movement about 1cm = "clearance", when I'm holding upper part of LCD's frame and close. Is it normal? Is it possible to adjust "stiffness" in hinges?

btw - I'm sorry for my czechnglish ;-)

It is not possible to 'adjust' the hinges. You must replace them to fix your problem.

The problem is not entirely clear, but it seems that you're saying something is loose with the LCD cover?

Tightening the hinges, is not really an option, however, tightening everything else may help.

There are two screws per hinge on the back of the T4x that can be tightened.

There are two hinge screws below the keyboard bezel, as well (as I recall).

There are several screws along each side of the LCD that hold the LCD to the extended hinge mechanisms. These can also be tightened.

Sometimes flex/slack is caused because some of these screws can loosen over time.

I try to explain my problem...

When I try to close my notebook, there is about 1cm clearance in upper side of lid. Is it normal?

I still don't understand what and where "clearance" is.

If I have notebook open I can wiggle the screen about 1 cm. The metal hinges are firm enough.

My question is - is it normal? Or is it possible to fix it?

Here, "clearance" = "play", I think.

It's certainly not normal, because my T42 doesn't have this issue. I believe the only way to fix it is to replace the hinges, like others have said.
