Help! Where's my sound..?!

#1 Post by dmc » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:04 am

This is driving me crazy. Can anyone help...?!!??

I've got a T42p.
For what it's worth I'm running XP2002 professional, and SoundMax digital audio device.

I plugged in some headphones to listen to something but since taking out the headphones the [censored] thing behaves as though they are still plugged in. So I can only hear sound with headphones plugged in.

I've checked everything audio by way of software... Nothing is muted. I've even updated the drivers. Nitch.

This is so frustrating. What's happened to the sound...?!

Any thoughts?
Pleeeese...?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Have you checked the "Advanced Audio Properties" under Sound and "Audio Devices Properties." I believe you can select the speakers though "Speaker setup" drop down choices. I don't have any headphones handy to try out but perhaps you can check it.

It is a jack on the T4x. It will have to switch, so perhaps it has gone defective. ... JDH

I was just going to mention the same. At least on the boomboxes there is a small tab that disconnects the internal speakers once a headphone or any other device is inserted in the headphone jack, perhaps either that little tab is bent or broken.

hmm. given everything else i tried, that sounds pretty likely.
Is there any way of checking or is it one of those things that you need to send away to get fixed...?

I am not sure if by removing the keyboard you can take a look at it but its certainly not that difficult to at least visually inspect the mechanism. If you are not comfortable with that I would highly suggest sending it in for repair - provided the machine is still covered under warranty.
