Gaming on a T42p - risky?

#1 Post by cormac » Thu Nov 18, 2004 9:50 am

According to some other posts in the T-series forum a T42p should handle many modern games very well. I have run AquaMark and got a total score around 20000 (sorry, don't have the exact value...). 3DMark05 was a challenge, though, and I don't know the scores.

Now, I'd like to try for example HalfLife2. I don't have that much time for gaming, but when I travel I'd consider bringing one, maybe two games along.

A rookie question: Are there any risks in installing and uninstalling a modern game (original, not a black market copy). Ok, it'll show in the registry, but beyond that? Any games that one should avoid because of this? I'd like to be able to load a game, use it for a couple of months on the laptop, and then uninstall it to free the space for other stuff.

Why would there be a risk? If you install and then uninstall a legal version of a game it is just like installing a program and uninstalling it. It won't hurt anything, if you install an illegal version you might run into some registry problems but nothing that can't be fixed. The only risk I can see is to start spending too much time playing games because regardless of what people say about the FireGL t2 it does a very nice job if it is compatible with the game. :D

That sounds sensible.
The worries/rumours that I (being an unexperienced curious gamer) have heard relate to use of illegal versions, most likely.
Thanks for your help!!
Will try something...

Yeah, but the one real danger is not to be neglected:
The only risk I can see is to start spending too much time playing games because regardless of what people say about the FireGL t2 it does a very nice job if it is compatible with the game. Very Happy

I talk out of experience (Not the T2 part, but the time spending part)
