Bios upgrade not supported with Vista?

#1 Post by ravenjim » Fri Dec 21, 2007 9:43 am

I bought a t41p with Windows Vista ultimate installed and obviously Lenova doesn't support a bios upgrade on this model (2374-GGU) with Vista. I am running version 2.11 and would like to know if upgrading the bios would cause problems. Can I upgrade from ver. 2.11 to the latest version?

My reason to upgrade is that I want to get the Atheros wireless abg card and it needs newer bios to work in my machine.

Also could someone explain step by step, the procedures to upgrade the bios. Pleeeease!!

Thanks in Advance, Jim

Well, given that you can upgrade the BIOS from a FDD/CDR, you don't need to load the OS before upgrading the BIOS. Sounds like an old BIOS and I'm not aware of any reason Vista would work with an older BIOS better than a newer one (usually the reverse, in fact).

I have upgraded all of mt T4x computers to the latest BIOS/harware controller but I'm still using XP.

Upgrading to last bios and embedded controller from floppy disk or cd image works fine with Vista installed.

Download the BIOs files from the Lenovo website. There are very detailed step-by-step procedures for updating the bios. All you need is a floppy drive.

The problem I've seen is that the task to create bootable floppy won't run in a vista environment.

Right click the .exe BIOs file in Vista

select "Properties"

select the "Compatibility" tab

under "Compatibility Mode" check the box to run in Windows XP SP2 mode.

Alternately, you can try the non-diskette version.

Why can't I find the embedded controller program version? I've searched everywhere in bios configuration and it's not listed. Was this added later and since my version 2.11 has never been updated, it was never installed?
