Deleting RRUBackups

#1 Post by azoso5150 » Thu Nov 18, 2004 6:39 pm

Hi All,

I have been reading through many of the posts discussing deleting RRUBackups. I downloaded the RR Tools, but the command line tool flashes and does not stay long enough for me to delete the backups.

Any suggestions on deleting the backups or fixing the RRU tool would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't know exactly what you mean by "flashing". Did you start it from the command line ("CMD.EXE" in the system32 folder of Windows)?

Download the new, improved Rescue and Recovery Version 2. It allows you to delete backups from the graphical user interface.

Btw, you've posted in the wrong place, this question should have been asked in the Windows section. :P

Thanks for the information. No I did not use it from the CMD.EXE in the system32. I initiated it from the rrtools folder that was added when I downloaded the tools from the IBM website.

I like the idea of the new version of Rescue and Recovery. I will pursue that option.

I posted here because it did not seem like a Windows question. I also noticed that there were a lot of posts on the topic of backups and restores in this section.

Thanks again!

Ah, I see. No, you can't click it, it's a command-line tool and this essentially means, well, that it has to be accessed via the command line (=CMD.EXE)... ;)

Yeah, good idea, the process of deleting backups is much more user friendly with the new version.

Rapid Restore is a ThinkPad utility, however. And the Windows section of this forum is intended for "Operating System, Common Application & ThinkPad Utilities Questions".

Yep, this is the most active section of the forum and many just post in here because they think they won't be read anywhere else (which isn't necessarily true).

Thanks for your assistance. I was able to get the backups deleted. I now have them stored on my network and my hard disk has more space now.

I have a question concerning this new version of R&R. The installation instruction mention that one should update to the newest bios version available. This means in my case (T42p 2373HTG) also to update the embedded controller. So in principle I am very carefully doing any bios updates and usually only make an effort in case it should be really unavoidable.

I have installed Bios version 3.06f.

Do you have any experience if the update is really necessary? Did you update your bios before installing R6R??? Has anyone already updated his bios? Does it work without any problems?

I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance anyway!

Update the BIOS and the embedded controller program. Do the embedded controller first.

Make sure any previous version of Rescue and Recovery are not present (uninstall them from add/remove programs)

All of these items can be found on this page:

Ok, my question was not exactly in which order to do this but if it is really necessary to update bios and embedded controller. But thanks anyway.

I tried this morning and it worked flawlessly. And additionally I did not have to remove the backup made by the old R&R version because it was already gone. Is this because the old version is not really compatible with the new one??? This would actually mean I have to do a new baclup in order to be able to restore with the new version pf R6R, right???
