Odd T41 wifi problem.. model 2374-3HU

#1 Post by iThinkiAmBen » Sun Dec 23, 2007 5:16 pm

Hi everyone. MY new T41 (which I absolutely adore) seems to have a slight issue with the internal wifi.

When I wake it from sleep, it gives the Acquiring Network Address icon for around two and a half seconds, then disconnects. It repeats this for around ninety seconds, and then finally connects. I was just wondering whether or not this was something I should be concerned about. My friend has had two T40s, and they have both had almost nonexistent internal wireless, so maybe this is a problem across the whole T4x series?

Thanks for your help, and happy Christmas Eve Eve.

What WiFi card do you have? Are you using Access Connection or Windows XP WZC?

The atheros wifi with WZC in my T42 connects within 15 seconds after waking up from sleep.

Its not.

You need to provide more information if you expect to get a useful answer.

I had this problem a couple of years ago, I removed the card and reinstalled and the driver also and the problem disappeared. This was with a T30 though not a t41. Worth a try maybe.

I'll do that, thanks. This morning when I turned her on, I had to click "Repair connection" like twice to get the internet... I may have to use aa Linksys card.

Odd T41 wifi problem

Dear Kyocera,
I am interested in your solution of replacing the wireless card in your T4x when you had connection problems. I have a T42p which has been working quite well over several years using a wireless router connection. Lately, I have experienced connection problems - after awaking from a sleep mode, or just a dropped connection which is not able to be re-connected at all without recycling the router and/or the T42p. I am writing this on my T60 and the connection is working very well, while the T42p refuses to re-connect after tries with longer time to get IP address, etc.

How difficult is it to replace the wireless card in the T42p?
(The T42p is running XP pro and is the 2373GVU model. This has been a very stable and productive machine, and I would love to keep it around a while, if there is a simple solution.)

Thank you for your ideas and help.

It's not very hard to replace it. You'll have to remove the battery, the keyboard and the palm rest. (about 10 screws to remove). A good screwdriver and the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) are all that you need. Good Luck

Odd T41 wifi problem

Thanks for the encouragement that I could be able to replace the wireless card in my T42p. Now the question is what to replace it with. I looked on the Lenovo site and cannot find a card which is recommended for the T42p. They show only cards suitable for the 60 series (X, Z, or T).

I am new to wireless, and have installed the linksys router (G), but am learning how this all fits together. Therefore, any basics that you can supply as to the place and type of replacement to get that will allow my T42p to hum along using wireless - will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Elaine
P.S. Just checked with IBM support because warranty still in effect, and they advised device driver update for adapter. So far, this seems to be holding the connection, and maybe I can avoiding going into the innards of the TP42p. Thanks for your advice to date.
