Wobbly Laptop Hinges

#1 Post by gunston » Mon Dec 24, 2007 5:33 am

Every laptop Hinges are sturdy and nice, would only get a bit of loosening as you use it down the road. For IBM Thinkpad, cases of loosened Hinges is lesser than other brand of notebook.

As the time goes, you would feel that your thinkpad hinges are getting loosen not as tight as the new one,

- how to turn the Hinge back to the initial condition just like new :?:
- wonder is it possible to tighten the Hinges :?:

There is no tightening the hinges, just replacing them.

What "laptop" are you talking about? I haven't seen any mention of that.

But I can tell you that a T40 has no way of "tightening" the hinges... they appear to be metal with CFR (carbon fiber reinforced resin) and are cast together. No screws, nothing that could be adjusted. I know this exactly, since I had to replace one that had been broken (the metal part) in shipping.

What might be happening is that the screws attaching the hinges to the case/cover become loose with time, and naturally these can be tightened. But the hinges themselves can only be replaced.
