Companies - 80 GB HDD for T41

#1 Post by eshwarz » Fri Nov 19, 2004 9:48 am

Hi,

I have a T41, and want to upgrade my HDD to 80 GB.

The 80 GB HDD at IBM costs $ 299. So is anyone aware where we can buy a 80 HDD other than IBM.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Here is the link for all the Compatible Laptops for HGST Travelstar 5K80

http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib. ... EC00728ADB

I do not find the T41 listed among the compatible Laptops.

So where do I stand ?

The Hitachi 80 GB 5400 RPM HD is a STANDARD size notebook HD (9.5mm if I remember correctly). It will fit your T41 without any problems.

These days, most notebooks are able to use almost any notebook HDs out there.

does HD RPM need to match the notebook?

#5 Post by Vestaure » Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:51 am

I was wondering whether the Hitachi/Travelstar hard drive has to match the rpm of the notebook. As I own a T41 2373 1FU with 4200rpm.

I'm considering getting a "un-tested" HITACHI Travelstar IC25N080ATMR04-0 from eBay. (fairly cheap) Anyone have a bad experience with this? Or should I be buying it brand new?

I'm also having trouble finding out whether the HD model # is compatible with my 2373. So if anyone could help out. Mega thanks.

there is no such thing as laptop rpm....it's your hd's rpm....replace that with any standard laptop hd and it will work...you got a 4200rpm (the slowest) so you can get a 80G 5400 or the 60g 7200....

i replace my 40g 4200 with the hitachi 60g 7200 and it is so much better

I bought the slowest 80Gb Travelstar (5400RPM?) from Newegg for $134 a couple of months ago for my T41. I think it's much less now. I needed the space more than the speed andt works just fine for me.

I am with James (JHEM),

7k60 is the fastest HD for notebook for now. And $134 w/ free shipping is a fantastic deal.

Umm, are those my only two options? See, I was thinking of getting the Hitachi Travelstar 80GB (IC25N080ATMR04-0) at possibly less than $10. (yes, it's untested) The hard drive RPM is at 4200 rpm.

Will this be ok?

If it works with all of those OLD Thinkpads, it will work in newer ones.

"Untested" = DEAD in eBay-speak!

Seriously, how could you consider purchasing an "Untested" HD? And what is preventing the seller from testing it? The lack of a $10 USB housing?

These sales are usually scams for folks who already have one of these HDs and hope to get another for free under warranty by reporting they have a "dead" HD. They send their eBay purchase in to the laptop manufacturer to get a replacement.
