Do I need SP2 and update drivers/BIOS too?

Received my T42 2373-L4U last week. Having a great time with it. Watching a movie on 15" screen was awesome. Also burned my backup CD's. A friend advised that I have to update to SP2 but need to download & load BIOS and drivers. Do I really need to do all of these? Everything's seems to be ok?

Think I spoke too soon. A vertical line just appeared 1inch from the right side of my screen. Tried to reboot, but it appears right on boot up. Changed the display settings, no changed. Connected the T42 to a monitor, it doesn't appear on monitor. Anybody had this kind of problem? Please help!!!
