C:\Drivers folder

#1 Post by Scuzzzed » Mon Nov 22, 2004 12:37 am

can the C:/Drivers folder (IBM Factory setup) be deleted. The reason i'm asking is because all the files are setup files, i assume the extracted drivers are in the Windows directory.. plus it's occupying 300MB.

any suggestions?

Thanks...

I would back it up somewhere, on a CD or something. it will be useful later since it contains all the drivers for your thinkpad. I backed it up before I did clean install on my thinkpad and used the back up and thinkpad software installer to install all the driver for the devices.

Yeah, if you desperately need 300MB back. Though, if you are that strapped for space, you might want to consider getting a larger hard drive and/or using an external drive for storing stuff. 300MB is not that much stuff, and you will likley have a lot more space issues if you are that tight on storage.

If you keep the IBMTOOLS folder and also if you download and retain driver update files, then you can delete the C:\Drivers folder because you can easily re-create it. I do not recommend deleting it because you can keep this folder current and use it to re-install a driver if necessary. The savings are not worth the hassle. ... JDHurst

IBMTOOLS is one folder you do *not* want to delete unless you have a known working backup. That is where the original apps including licensed apps are stored. You may need that folder one day. I don't play with this folder, and on my T41 it is 665 Mb. The DRIVERS folder is the folder that drivers get exploded to and where the setup programs for the drivers live. The Preload Drivers folder on my T41 is 27 Mb. I explode new drivers in a separate folder. I have replaced all my drivers and apps and that folder (unique to me) is 215 Mb. ... JDHurst
