Any news on 14.1" flexview, firewire, dvd +/-???

#1 Post by Dr Dan » Mon Nov 22, 2004 9:35 pm

Hi all,

I'm itching to get my hands on a T42 14.1", but those missing features keep nagging me...

> Flexview screen
> Firewire
> Decent speed +/- DVD writer (and maybe even dual layer)

Any ideas when we may start to see machines with some or all of these features?

To be honest, the screen is my biggest concern. I currently have a samsung X10 - and the screen is pretty poor as far as I'm concerned (in terms of viewing angle). Haven't seen 14.1" or 15" flexview to compare them - but have read the reports on this board. Surely the 14.1" flexview will come sometime - but any idea when...?

Do IBM have a policy on DVD format? Were they involved in the development of one of the formats - and so never likely to produce the competing one?

Thanks for any insight.

Dan.

There won't be a 14.1" FlexView because it would increase the thickness and weight of the laptop thus defeating the whole point of the thin-and-light 14" T series. If you must have FlexView, the 15" SXGA+ models are available for about the same price.

IBM uses Panasonic drives so as soon as Panasonic releases a more advanced 9.5mm Multi-Burner, it will probably find its way into the Thinkpad.

Is that a fact? Maybe they'll improve the technology and make it thinner / lighter as sony has managed to do.

Hmmm - maybe I should just go for it now!

It's almost a fact. The LCD manufacturers that IBM uses for its T and R series laptops currently do not produce a 14.1" IPS screen and there have been no recent press releases indicating that one will be released.
