I had this problem last summer. I popped off the space bar, cleaned things up and reassembled. I did it twice and now it's working fine.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to pop off the spacebar, but it flexed a little and I was afraid to break it. Is there a correct way to pop it off?

Silly question, is the thinkpad still under warranty? if so, just get it replaced.

If not, keyboards do come up on this board (marketplace) for $30 or so.

Hi,

It is not under warranty.

I would rather fix it if I can, for it is, except for this problem, a very good keyboard.

-------------------

I finally managed to remove the spacebar by pooling its top side with my fingernails. I cleaned a bit though it wasn't dirty and put it back by putting the open end of the wire under the plastic first and then the other side of the plastic rose, and I entered the other side of the wire under the other side of the plastic, and pressed the spacebar in.

at first it didn't seem to have a good effect. On the contrary, the other side of the spacebar, the left one, has become unresponsive too. But then I pressed the spacebar hard down, and something clicked on the right side, and now when writing this message it seems to work well on both sides. I hope that it would stay this way.

I think the problem was that it has gotten loose on the left side, and then when pressing the right side, the left side rose, and thus there was no pressure in the middle where the actual button is. I think that re-sitting it fixed it.

Same Problemo

#6 Post by rush242 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:11 pm

So, I'm having the same problem as well.

I left the metal bar attached to the spacebar, and slid the little hooks under the little black plastic things towards the bottom of the keyboard and then pressed it back down.

Is that right? Is that where the little hooks are to go, because I can't see where they could go anywhere else. Sadly, it seems to have made little difference at all. Every third press it isn't registering and THAT is really annoying.

Thoughts suggestions? Maybe pull those little plastic thingys under there off as well?
