Extremely stupid problem that I can't figure out how to fix

#1 Post by megaman » Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:34 pm

I'll try make this short.

I have a dock and I use an external keyboard from Microsoft that has a shortcut button on the top for "Mail." Usually what happens after I reformat my computer is that I'll press it once, the "Thinkpad web navigation keys agent" will come up, I'll put in gmail.com for the link and that'll be that.

Well this time I accidentally entered http:// twice because I forgot that that part is already included and each time I press it brings up some spam website. How do I edit the link that this button is programmed for? I searched for literally 2 hours last night and couldn't figure it out. I found out that it has something to do with tpwebkey.exe but I can't figure out where to go to edit it. Anybody know?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I don't have my T41 in front of me, but the A31 here at work has a program called "Thinkpad Web Navigation Keys" under the Programs/Thinkpad group. Look around for that or a "HotKey" utility. From there you can re-define the URL string.

Tried that, it's nowhere to be found. That's the strange thing, it only seems to exist if the key isn't defined. Once you define it, that's it. I can't understand it.

Once you define it, you will probably need to set up the key mapping for it in the Microsoft keyboard management utility (at least that's what I had to do).

Cheers,

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying? The basic problem is that the button activates a link that I would like to change, and I've got no clue how to do so. I can't find the utility, it's almost as if it only existed to map the button and then disappeared off of my computer.

Can you tell us exactly what keyboard you're using? As an example on the bottom of the one I'm using right now with my desktop box it's called "Microsoft MultiMedia Keyboard 1.0A". I'm sure the correct administrative program can be found given that information.
