T42p with MTRON SSD?

#1 Post by balt » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:11 pm

Hi all,

I have a T42p I can't (don't want to) part with. The only thing making it markedly sower than my other laptops is its harddisk (or so it seems).

Has anyone installed an MTRON 2.5" solid state disk into a T42p that old? Will it fit connector wise?

Is Lenovo going to release an SSD version of the X61 anytime soon? That's the machine I'd really be waiting for.

Cheers

- Balt

The T42 has a PATA connector. There are SSDs for it. There are also newer SATA interface drives, so don't get them mixed up.

Somebody on the forum has installed a 16gb SSD before, and it turned out to be pretty fast.

Thanks.

How do I find out whether I have PATA or SATA in that Thinkpad? Is there a detailed model list somewhere? It is rather old, about 3.5 years.

Cheers

All the T4* machines have PATA connectors.

Here's a thread with more interesting info, like successes and failures in installing them.

- a further few interesting SSD T42(p) threads are: Replacement of hard drive with SSD and SSD on T42p and [Maybe FS] IBM T42, 2.0GB RAM, SSD HD 14" SXGA+ w/Warr.

Please share your experience here - thanks!

Best regards,
