T4xp with FireGL X1-128 Graphics Card
Has anyone heard any rumours that IBM is going to upgrade the T4xp range wth the FireGL X1-128 graphics card rather than the FireGL T2-128?
The FireGL T2-128 is based on the Radeon 9600 which was OK a couple of years ago but is showing its age. The FireGL X1-128 on the other hand is based on the Radeon 9700 which in 3D tests is far superior.
As I am about to buy a Laptop there is little point buying a n IBM now if the graphics card is upgraded in 6 months.

Well, IBM notebooks are not intended to meet gamers requirements...
Isn't the 9600 newer than the 9700? Even it is weaker than the 9700 it is the small brother of the 9800 and replaced the 9500... or am I wrong at that point?
Nevertheless I'd suppose a larger step forward. Maybe to a mobile 9800 or newer chipset.

Actually don't play games.
I need the power to run 3D mapping software.
Currently I have an AJP 5DP which has the Radeon 9600. The 5PD also was uplited to the Radion 9700 and the difference is marked.
The problem wtth AJPs is that is is a monsters of a machine with no battery life, plenty of heat and some service issues. All these issues go away if the IBM Thinkpad T4xp has the FireGL X1-128 Graphics Card

I agree these aren't gaming machines, but it would be cool if they did run games a bit better.
That said, are the video cards in these guys upgradeable? I'm thinking no way (thanks to motherboard integration), just wanna check.

From what Ive read the x300 is nothing more then the ati9000. So that one is not too powerfull. The x800 is, again from what Ive heard, a power hungry card. So thats not too good for your battery either. Its a good card for desktop replacements though. For the IBM T series the x600 seems to be the solution. Now all we need to do is sit back and cross thumbs till IBM releases a T-serie laptop with one of these babes. Hopefully one of these T-series see light at the end of January, or perferrably MUCH sooner so they will be cheaper, when I buy my IBM T-laptop.
