#1 Post by rufunky » Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:40 pm

I think it's time to retire my T-40 so I'm wondering what the fair market value is.(product is in great shape no dings or scratches)

Extras:

atheros a/b/g

120GB HDD

What's the 7-character product code, which you can find on the bottom side of the laptop? It should look like 1234-ABC.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

From the Support & Download site:
Product: ThinkPad T40 2373-7CU [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: P M 1.5GHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD(slim), Modem(CDC), Ethernet(LOM), Wireless upgradeable, Secure Chip(TCPA), UltraNav, 6 cell battery, WinXP Pro
Assuming it comes with Windows XP still installed and has at least 512MB of memory... $350 ? But that's just my guess.

Note: this is eBay pricing based upon past sales of T40 systems.

FYI, the exact same model T40 sold this week for $275 plus shipping in the marketplace --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=55215

It had 1GB of RAM, but you have a much larger/newer drive and upgraded wifi. I'd say $300 - $350 depending upon condition - and how long you'd like to wait for a buyer.

Pictures should help a lot.

Update: I just sold one tonight for $299 delivered, similar to yours with smaller drive and slightly faster CPU --> http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=56200

Thanks for the responses :)..I figured around $350. I may put it on the shelf @ the shop for $399 and see if any one bites.I'm in no hurry to sell.

In Aug 2007 I picked up a T40 for $450 in very good (not mint) condition and have since noticed that used Thinkpad prices are dropping like crazy.

I would suspect the high end pricing to be round about $350 but as someone just mentioned a recent sale price of $275 was posted.

I would think that on this sites "marketplace" you may only get the lower range of prices while on Craigslist you could command more higher pricing.

Looks like the T60 line is starting to creep into the "for sale" ads more and more.

T60's are the new T40-42's "older notebooks"....Ha, how quickly things change.

I believe I already have it sold for $399 so I guess I def got top dollar. Of course it is easier for me to sell for a higher price because people come in my shop specifically looking for used laptops.

Yes, it does seem the t60s are becoming the new t40. I may have to get another thinkpad :).
