Will T43 DVD burner work in T40/T41?

#1 Post by billp117 » Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:42 pm

Tried the T43 genuine IBM DVD burner in the T41 and got immediate blue screen. Any advice? I thought they were compatible. It works great in the T43.

Thanks, Bill

Lenovo just released a firmware update. This may be your problem, but I cannot match the manufacturer's mart numbers listed here to the IBM part numbers.

Hey...you are good. Funny thing however, I have the Multi Burner in my Z61t and did the updates a week ago. There was no firmware update required for the multi burner. It did update my bios which required re-validation of Vista with MS.

Thanks, We can try this to see if it works. I believe he is going to reload the restore disks on his other T41 (my brother's laptop) and we can try it in that machine first.

I am a little disappointed now since I see these drives are 2X or 2.4X for burning DVD's. The new drives are now 8X as are the knock-off's on eBay. I am not sure if that means much these days.

Thanks for your help.

I just found out the laptop gets the blue screen before XP boots up. This won't work as planned. Perhaps we can restore XP to the other T41 and see if it will boot. Or, we can try booting and then install the drive.

Will let you know. Bill

FYI, I've also had some problems with Multi plus from a T43 in a T41. I've even ordered the IBM disk that comes with T43 Multi +, and still have had problems.
