New T42 - small brighter areas on display

Hi !

Well I finally received my new T42 today and am totally satisfied with it so far. No dead pixels and thai keyboard. But there are three tiny areas (one about 1/2 cm) at the left display border, that are slightly brighter then the rest of the display. Although they are only noticeable on black backgrounds, it sucks cause I paid 2600 euro. From what i've read in this forum and now my own experience, I'm starting to believe that IBM no more sells "perfect" thinkpads or the chances of getting one have dramatically fallen.

So, do I've to live with that or may this be an warranty issue (If I decide to send it back, risking dead pixels, arrrrg ) ?

PS: my first writting on the T42 - wicked feeling, makes me horny

I get that on my one as well, and I don't believe it's a defect in the LCD, but the stress of the hinge on that portion of the LCD. I'm guessing that it's due to the hinges being slightly off, bending the corner of the LCD. You probably would get the same problem if you sent it back. If you're feeling really adventurous, you might try taking apart the LCD assembly and re-aligning the hinge so that you don't get the white spot

I keep on reading posts on the forum about people sending things back for relatively minor manufacturing defects and all that does is increase the price of things in the long run as they need to factor in people doing such things into the cost. You're 'only' paying $2000+ for a notebook, it isn't going to be absolutely perfect.
