Wireless connection stuck at "Waiting for association&q

#1 Post by afortune21 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:21 am

The wireless connection on my thinkpad T42p no longer works with Access Connections and is stuck at "Waiting for association" after running System Update.

About two weeks ago I decided to update my Thinkpad software, so I ran System Update and updated everything. The update ran fine, but when I tried to connect to my AP, the connection always failed to associate. I have an Atheros 11a/b/g Mini PCI Adapter that came with the laptop.

To cut a long story short, after many attempts at troubleshooting the problem, I've narrowed the source to the Access Connections software. Once I am using Windows to manage the wireless connection, it works fine. I had to disable the automatic location switching because once IBM Access Connections takes control, the wireless connection fails every time.

I like using Access Connections as it make the management of various wireless connections very easy and would hate to stop using it.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

The traditional approach for managing wireless updates was to uninstall Access Connections, uninstall the wireless driver, restart, install the new wireless driver, install new (if any) Access Connections. This process has generally worked for me and for a number of other persons.

If System Update is just overwriting (say) the wireless driver only, then it make break the whole thing. For this reason and others, I have never installed or used System Update. I stopped any automation with the demise of Software Installer and now do it manually.

Also, I had difficulty with Access Connections V4.42, and reverted to V4.41. It may be something I did in my machine that I cannot figure out, but V4.41 is working reasonably well, where V4.42 had problems with VPN for me.

Thanks JDH.

In fact the last thing that I did was to:

1. Uninstall access connections and the wireless card drivers.
2. Reboot.
3. Install ACPI power management driver.
4. Reboot.
5. Install Hotkey driver.
6. Reboot.
7. Install Wireless card driver.
8. Reboot.
9. Reinstall access connections.

This last process allowed me to use the wireless via Windows while still having access connections installed. Before I had to uninstall access connections for the wireless to work.

I will take your advise however and revert to version 4.41 and see.
