My T41 says the max supported RAM is 1GB

#1 Post by ibchico » Wed Jan 30, 2008 4:12 pm

I have a T41 2373 model and I'm trying to upgrade the RAM. I had the standard 512 under the keyboard (slot 1) only. I purchased 2 - 1GB cards and installed them both. The System only sees 1GB, went to Crucial and had them scan my System and it only shows memory in slot 1.

Then I swapped the memory cards around slot 1>slot2 and so forth, reboot and same issue. So I know both memory cards work. I remove the memory from slot 1 and only leave the memory in slot 2 (expansion slot) and the system boots fine and see the 1GB.

I then put memory back into slot 1 only, reboots fine and then I tried to put the 512 card into slot 2 to see what would happen and this time the system only sees the 512MB in slot 2......

Ran bios update and repeated above steps with same results. Then downloaded the latest PC Doctor from IBM and when I go into the memory test section and view the details it says my system will only support upto 1GB of RAM.

I called IBM support and they had nothing for me. Anybody have ideas as to this issue? Much appreciated!

I have 1.5GB DDR PC2700 installed on my T41 2379 with both BIOS and OS see the full capacity. What type of RAM do you have?

BTW, this probably should be posted in T4X forum.
