Question for anyone with T43p with ATi graphics (2XXX-XXX)

#1 Post by richk » Wed Jan 30, 2008 4:47 pm

I am trying to get a machine running by moving a drive from a T42p machine, and I still have a couple of minor driver issues. I am trying to figure out whether the event log errors I'm getting are "normal", or unique to the stuff I had to do to change to the T43 drivers. When I'm done, I'll post a description of how to change the HAL, etc to move T42 -> T43. When I start, I get 5 error messages in the event log from the ATi (video) driver ati2mtag saying "Unknown EDID version" . Also, under the device manager, if you expand "system devices", I have an exclamation mark next to ISAPNP Read Data Port. I would like to know if people who did a "normal" install get the same messages.

Do you need T43p recovery disks so you can test this yourself with a spare hard drive? I could do this to test it for you if you are interested. When I have done a T43p recovery I don't remember any of the issues you describe. I didn't check the event log though because there was no reason to.

Brad: Thanks, but I also have the recovery disks. I was hoping that I wouldn't need to go thru the recovery. Everything seems to be working, so I might not be that curious. I have seen questions about the same process, and I think I have told someone that the HAL wouldn't change, but now I know it does, and the change is needed to get some things working. I would guess that there would be more steps if you were trying to move the disk from a T40/41, because of the HPA.

I've just re-imaged a T43p ("normal" XP install, as you would have it), and have had no issues, question marks or whatever...everything works as it should.

ATi (2669-Q1U)...as far as I can recall, all T43p machines have ATi, right?

Same here, 2373-C96. Just got the machine, so swapped out the 5400prm drive for a 7K100. Loaded a vol license version of XP, no driver issues at all.

The vol XP loaded all the drivers except those for LAN, wireless, the GPU, and TPM.

I don't normally load ATIs control panel, but I am using this machine with an external monitor so had to. But really no issues with that either. It "forgets" that I want to expand my desktop, as opposed to mirror it. But I have gotten good at forcing it in the control panel.

I cloned an originally supplied 80gb 5400 Drive and put the image onto a brand nwe Hitachi 7k100. This went without any problems.
As somebody mentioned before, did not check the log for errors because there was no need to.
