Alternate video driver blasts 1400x1050 resolution option

I have installed a widescreen monitor driver as I normally work with my T43p with the lid closed. Now it seems the resolution options no longer include 1400x1050. I have..

- reinstalled the latest version of the FireGL V3200 drivers
- tried all sorts of registry hacks
- searched all the INF files (which still contain references to 1400x1050)

But alas, I am stuck at a smaller resolution (or a larger one which pans).

I have paid for "support" but it seems that only covers hardware.

Anyone got any ideas?
