Is this something you tried today? If yes, try later or tomorrow. The IBM/Lenovo package servers are oftem unavailable on Sundays. (system maintenance)

I would guess that someone changed the motherboard and screwed up trying to change the model/serial in the eeprom. You need to get a copy of the IBM Maintenance disk (must be on a bootable floppy) and change the information in the "20" entry. When you enter the model/serial number, you need to type "1S" in front. If you forget, it looks exactly like what you have got.

well i don't have a floppy drive so i made a bootable cd from the floppy drive image, after booting from the cd the software runs but it displays the warning that eeprom is write protected
btw i press "Esc" when i see ibm logo.

I have read over and over again online that a bootable CD wont work!!! :x

You need to have a clean floppy & a floppy drive :(
I got me a T43P, a T42 and a T41

The T41 never had any problems except a keyboard replacement

The T42 never gave me a problem

BUT THE T43P IS A DIFFERENT HOT & NOISY BEAST >95*C (on fire all the time/everytime)
