Warranty running out

#1 Post by Sand » Thu Feb 07, 2008 11:56 am

I just realized that the warranty for my Thinkpad DXU 2379 is going to run out in April and I was wondering if there is anything I should think to do before that happens? Anything I should order or ask them about? I wonder if my battery is about to run out and it would be cheaper now than later? Although it still says it's at 100% on the Taskbar.

Also, is the OS for this laptop the 64-Bit or just 64 or just XP? I need to know that for the drivers.

Thanks,
Sand

64 bit XP was never installed as an add on out of the factory. Battery replacement is on you at this point for a T42. Cost is no different now vs. later.

Harryc,

Thanks for your reply.

I think the reason I asked about the 64-bit is because I saw it somewhere on my system that I had it, but after you wrote that, I have looked but cannot find it anymore. It isn't in the Access IBM. Is there anywhere else that this information can be found, because I'm sure I saw it somewhere.

You might have seen Vista 64 bit offered on later models, but I don't believe XP 64bit was ever offered.

Okay, but if I do find something, I'll post it. But , like you say, if it was never offered on this model at this time, that would solve the question.

Thanks,
Sand

I checked two different ways and do not have the 64bit XP OS. I have the XP PRO SP2.

Thanks,
Sand

and for a T42 you can't use 64bit even if you bought it from Microsoft. The T42 is a 32bit machine.
Current - Thinkpad T410si - Core i3 330m, 4GB, 250GB 5400RPM, WXGA+, FPR, BT, Camera, DVDRW, Gobi2000, Win7 Pro x32
Past - Thinkpad T410 - T400 - T61 - T60 - T43 - T42 - T41 - T40 - T23 - 600X

SHoTTa35,

That's interesting. Thanks for telling me that. When I was doing research to find an answer I read a lot about the 64bit not even being as useful as the 32 i.e. not supporting as many programs, etc. So I'm glad that I have the 32. But just didn't know when asked about drivers.
