x40 wont detect dvd drive in ultrabase and usb issues also

When I dock my x40, frequently it doesn't recognize the dvd drive. I usually have to dock it two or three times before it picks up the drive. I dont think any hardware is broken, because when it docks, the drive powers up and spins, just the drive doesn't appear in windows explorer.

While on the topic (maybe related), every time I dock my thinkpad it tells me "This device can perform faster......". I thought the x40 is usb 2.0 so why do i get this message?
