I am considering the purchace of a T41p (GEU) from Bill. I am also considering the purchace of a T42 from IBM (DXU). I need a laptop to run AutoCad (mostly 2D) and to run Office applications. If processor performance and the 14 inch vs. 15 inch screen are the only considerations, and both laptops have the same amount of memory, will I really notice a big difference using the T42 vs. the T41? For what I will be using it for, is the extra money about ($350) for the T42 wasted?

I realize that the GEU has a better graphics card.

The truth is that 2D autocad runs fine on a T23. You won't have any problems with either machine.

The 15" display has better brightness and viewing angle than the 14" display. This might help you with AutoCad.

Otherwise, either of those machines will be fine.

I ran 2D AutoCAD for years on my trusty old 600X with 576MB RAM. Now running it on my T40 with, to me, stunning speed.

Either machine would be fine, but if it were me I'd save the extra money for something else.

Thanks for the feedback. For now I won't embarrass myself by saying what I have decided to do. More later.
