Refurbished T43, Battery Error in System Summary?

#1 Post by alpuzz » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:50 pm

Hi,

I just purchased a Refurbished T43, type 1871AB9, from Tigerdirect.com. The machine is in excellent condition, but I have noticed one oddity. If I access the System Summary report Via ThinkPad Configuration, under the BATTERY INFORMATION section, all it says is "Error".The battery seems to be holding a charge just fine. The FRU is 92p1091.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but I've noticed that when I connect or disconnect AC power, I don't get a beep, even though that feature is supposedly active.
I updated to Bios version 1.29 (70ET69WW) and embedded controller version 1.05, but this had no effect on either issue.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Verify the power 'beep' is enabled on both the BIOS and the thinkpad software.

The T43 is a nice machine, enjoy!!

There is a possibility that you have an, um, aftermarket battery. You may need to replace the battery to resolve the issue.

Make sure to keep the battery charging for a while to see if the error persists. I had a similar situation with a Ultrabay Slim battery.

I dealt with one that showed those symptoms after a new battery had sat long enough to be totally dead. The manual suggested that you should test the battery by measuring the resistance between terminals 4 and 5. After I tested that (resistance should be between 4 ohms and 30 K Ohms) and put the battery back into the machine, it magically began to charge. It was either a coinsidence or I reset the battery. BTW, when you look at the battery terminals, the one by itself, separated by the key, is number 1.
