how did I/do I lock the mouse pointer?

allow me to explain the cryptic subject line question.

sometimes, when placing the trackpoint (red button on keyboard) on the page up/down scroll bar in firefox, the pointer becomes a sticky pointer and I no longer need to click on the left button (the small 3 button group under spacebar)

how did I do that? I can never deliberately make it happen

machine is a t40 with xp sp2 volume license edition

If Firefox has Auto Scroll set, you can leave the mouse cursor anywhere and click the middle button to do that. Click again to get back to unlock it.

ok, tried to click on the little blue-line-middle button, between the red-line left and right buttons, immediately under spacebar

nothing happened, no lock or sticky mouse scroll

still unknown to me
