T42 & Middle Mouse Button in VMWare Running Fedora Core

I just installed VMWare on my T42 (2378-FVU). My host OS is Windows XP, VMWare is the latest version (4.5.2 I believe) and the guest OS is Redhat Fedora Core 3. I cannot seem to get the middle mouse Trackpoint button (the blue-underline one) to function as the standard X Windows middle mouse or for scrolling. I got tp-scroll running (one known solution) but, aside from accelerating mouse cursor movement, it didn't work.

I've also tried to get the Synaptic touchpad driver working, which I believe should activate the middle mouse, but it hung up the guest OS on boot.

Is there anyone else successfully using the middle mouse under VMWare with Fedora Core 3? If so, your sage advice would be much appreciated!

If you're using the ultranav/trackpoint drivers in your host OS (I'm assuming XP), make sure you have the scroll type of the middle button to be "Smooth scrolling." The default setting (where you have to hold down the middle button and move the stick to scroll) is an IBM-specific thing and doesn't translate properly to most programs.

"Smooth" scroll type basically makes the blue button be a "middle click," which in 99% of programs today invokes an auto-scroll routine. That middle click should get passed to VMWare without issue...

The default setting does not pass to any of my virtual machines. The "Smooth Scrolling" as Zprime suggested passes to my Windows 2000 VM, but does not pass to my RedHat Linux machine. Fedora Core may be different, I don't know. Good luck. ... JDHurst
