Its thinner. Babying it somewhat wouldn't be a bad idea. Its not weak, but its no Toughbook anymore either.

Yeah, I played with a couple of Tougbooks...were considering for use on a trip to Antartica. Ended up going with the Itronix GoBook MAX. Its quite the killer notebook in terms of durability. Its one step above "rugged". It is what is considered an ultra-rugged. Rugged=use in cars. Ultra-Rugged=Use outdoors such as Hazmat, military, or on a construction site. The way I usually state the difference is that rugged notebooks are for situations where the human is just fine, but the notebook might not take to kindly to the stresses it would receive. Ultra-ruggeds are for when both the user and the notebook are being put in stressful/extreme situations, perhaps even on a routine basis. The environment is literally hostile, instead of just non-ideal.
Pretty amazing notebooks though. Perfect for that sort of trip.
Just thought I would mention it in case anyone ever really needed a notebook for out of this world type of adventures. The other good choice for truly hostile environments are the ones from Mitac. Oh yeah, and the ones from Getac are really kick a$$ too.

From a previous post...............(not mine)
According to the Tabook the T42 has
a Magnesium alloy top cover and carbon fiber
reinforced plastic bottom cover. The T41 has
the titanium-reinforced CFRP bottom. The
question is how accurate is the tabook?
Titanium composite has the best absolute strength against impact and flexing when compared to ABS plastic and Magnesium alloy.
However, Magnesium alloy has the greatest strength per unit mass. In terms of absolute strength it is stronger than ABS pastic but weaker than Titanium composite.

Hi,
was reading what you guys write about toughbooks vs thinkpads,
I frequently work (translation jobs) in hostile environments such as trains and buses and have used three toughbooks (CF-71, CF-28, CF-72). Bought them second-hand, of cour$e. I used to think they were the best laptops.
Now I am converted to a thinkpad (t41, 1400*1050, 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM) and can tell you this: DO buy a toughbook only when:
- you have an iron spine - these things WEIGH.
- you have kids - ice cream onto keyboard of running computer? this was no problem! just wipe away
- you like sluggish computers. For some reason they have weaker specs than other brands (perhaps to make some of them (CF-28) run without the need for internal fans. This was nice BTW - no sound)
The thinkpad? strong and FINALLY light enough to carry around in backpack all day without any extra neoprenes. Fast, sharp, nice to touch. I love this thing!

Ifeagan, do you get disk write errors when you try to save your Excel (or Word, etc.) file onto your HDD while the car is very bumpy?
i've once had an Excel save error that corrupted my file when i accidentally kicked the table with my notebook computer on it... (it was a big kick--i was in a hurry...)
