EEPROM Is Write-protected problem

#1 Post by nward4 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:12 am

HI all, first post so please be kind. I have a problem with Lenovo returning hardware repairs with new System/motherboards which have a different Model number than the one on the chassis. This cause major headaches for me as when trying to deploy my clients SOE (Standard Operating Enviroment) image , one of the first thing it does is look to the BIOS to which model number it is so it can run the correct Hardware install script. I have HMD 1.75, I boot from it from a USB floppy drive, press ESC as soon as the Blue IBM screen appears. I then select option 1, Set System Information. Every time I get the "EEPROM is Write Protected" message.
I think I have read every post reagarding this, is there any further advice out there? The machine is a T41.
I also need to change the model numbers on T42's, T43's, T60's, T61's & X61s
Thanks for your help in advance.
Currently Running T40, T41, T42, T42p, T43, T60, T61 Widescreen & X61s

I had write protection error a couple of times too. It seemed to work for me if I turned off the computer, pulled the battery out, pulled the AC cord, waited a couple of seconds and put everything back again. Then started the HMD immediately after powering on the laptop.

Welcome to the forum!

When you press escape does the ThinkPad logo disappear and a startup screen appear?

Make sure that the floppy disk is not write-protected.

Also, you cannot run from CD or memory stick. You need a real floppy.
