I will reformulate my question....
I cannot access the tuning of the brightness via the function keys on the keyboard.
Is there any other access (hardware, software) ?
Should I dismantle all the laptop ?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Are you able to change display brightness in BIOS?

If yes, you have to download display drivers and hotkey drivers from Lenovo's website.

Good luck and let us know.

I have only 2 options for brightness in BIOS: normal/high
Both give the same behavior, the brightness stay locked.
I downloaded the drivers form lenovo's anyway and it does not help....

Is there any difference that you can see when you set it to "high" as opposed to "normal"?

Hi, I have similar problem on X61s. I can change the brightness by Fn+Home/End keys only until first sleep. After wake-up I cannot change the brightness even by changing power plan.
Does anyone know which processes participate in changing brightness? Maybe one of them hangs.

I have a T43 connecting to an external monitor. I can use the function keys to adjust the brightness on the ThinkPad monitor but not on the external monitor. (The bar changes but no effect on the brightness. I have to use the buttons on the external LCD to change the brightness)

So my guess is some communication problem between the motherboard and the LCD? Such a bad inverter or a connection cable?

I do wish I could help you guys more..
