Noob Question about T42

#1 Post by honbut » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:33 pm

Hi, i was just wondering,
i was took out my keyboard today as my T42 started to act funny.
i was looking in and wondering what the chip is beside the CPU and onto of the GPU(same one) is?

and also, does applying thermal paste matter a lot as in bring the temperature down?

thanks

You took out the keyboard because of what fault?
I don't understand the second sentence, sorry.

The stock thermal paste can degrade with age, so it may be wise to use an upraded material when making modifications to, or replacing a heatsink/ fan module with a higher grade themal material than the one used by IBM/ Lenovo in the initial build.

A good thermal paste will last longer and be a little more efficient than a simplistic thermal grease, imo.

Sorry if I didn't answer much of your question but I didn't understand part of it.

This is either the northbridge or the southbridge in the chipset. Not sure which one. The northbridge handles the highspeed transfers and southbridge handles the low speed activities.

The southbridge is under the touchpad (and under the WiFi card, if you have one).
