T40 S-Video Output

#1 Post by Lookee » Fri Feb 22, 2008 2:56 am

I'm having a bit of trouble with my s-video output on my t40.

I am currently connecting to my TV via an s-video-to-component cable. I can see everything fine on both screens (notebook & TV). The problem is I can't see any video files on the s-video output.

For example -

I play a DVD or avi file in WM Player and on the notebook everything is displayed as it should be. On the TV screen however, the Media Player window is blank? i.e- I can still see all controls, taskbar and everything else but the actual window where the video is displayed is just black?

Any ideas on what the cause of this might be? I'm running XP pro, have a radeon 7500 and have tried a range of players and video files and DVDs all with the same result. The only video I can see ok is flv videos in my browsers. I'm using a 7-pin s-video cable like the one below-

Sorry ignore that entire post - I figured it out

It would appear that you can't display video on both the notebook and on the TV at the same time. As soon as I switched to TV only mode it worked fine

If you manage your screen using IBM's Presentation Director, there is an option there in profile settings which lets you choose which screen is a primary one, the overlayed videos will only work on primary screens.

If you're not using it and have an ATI graphics chip (not sure if there were T40 with other chips), you can choose which screen is primary in system display settings (right click on desktop, 'Properties'). Right click on the box representing the TV and check the 'Primary' option.

There's a setting in advanced display options that lets you choose how the overlay is shown.
