Cursor move down slowly by itself

#1 Post by asyarief » Fri Feb 22, 2008 4:50 am

Hi,

I got t43 and I installed all the driver after reinstalling windows xp pro couple month back. Yesterday I start getting this problem where the cursor start moving down very slowly by itself. I ran antivirus/spyware and I couldn't find anything. I dont use any external mouse, only the pad to move the cursor.

Anybody experience this before ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
asyarief

I randomly have the same problem, both on T43 and R51.
I think it is just the trackpad not comign back to the neutral positon after extensive use. Try pulling it strongly upwards and it should help.
That is my guess, simply a hardware/mechanical issue.

This happens for me from time to time when using the trackpoint. The cursor should stop by itself after you let go of the button for a few seconds.

i guess it is because of the trackpoint is a bit outcentered and needs to be played around with for a while.

Hi!

Happened to me too in both machines (T40 and T41) not very often but happens, I first though it was some spyware or virus but after check that everything it's ok i guess it's some driver issue.

The weird thing is that only happens with the trackpoint not the touchpad.

I can live with it but, it would be better if there is a way to solve it :D

From Wikipedia's Trackpoint article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackpoint
Cursor drift is a ubiquitous problem among pointing sticks, requiring frequent recalibration. However, TrackPoints automatically recalibrate when the stick recognizes a steady cursor drift; to trigger a recalibration, the user must lift his finger temporarily off the TrackPoint for about 1 second.

Thanks guys for the response. But I think in my case it's the software issue. On my XP Pro I tried doing "system restore" to the last time where it was still OK. And everything went back to normal. I did however during that time install and reinstall some program. I guess one of them must cause the problem.
