t40 and losing video signal

#1 Post by opal33 » Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:28 am

HI guys,
I have a huge problem with a T40. I got this laptop after a disagnostic of dead MOBO. The HD is brand new and there is 1G of RAM in it. I decided to change the MOBO, which i did, but a odd problem now appears. After about 20 minutes of works, I lose the LCD screen. It goes totally black. I try to reboot but sometimes, the screen won't light up at all. I hooked up a external screen but it does the same thing, after 15 minutes of work, it goes black. What could be the problem?

Which GPU?

If you have the higher end GPU you would need the long heat sink fan. So if your old motherboard had the lower end GPU you would have the heat sink fan that doesn't cover the GPU. If you used the short fan you may be experiencing an overheating GPU issue.

What do you mean a different OS? For the fan, I use the fan that came with the new motherboard, which was the same as my old one. I read a bit more and it sounds like a bad graphic card.
