T42 14 inch vs 15 inch
T42 14 inch vs 15 inch
Im deciding between a T42 14 inch and 15 inch model. I plan on getting a 64 mb card with 1400x1050 resolution. My dilemma is that i prefer the smaller 14 inch, but I heard the 15 inch has Flexview which is supposedly a better view. What are your thoughts?

"Ya pays ya money, ya takes ya choice" as the adage goes...
I have a 15" Flexview and I'm very lazy - when I get tired from watching a video/DVD and I get up from my desk and go lay on my bed, the screen image stays exactly as it was, despite not moving the TP and my having moved horizontally/vertically from my previous viewing angle...
I heard, on this forum, that some people are rather concerned about privacy - as the screen is readable from just about any angle, people can look over your shoulder and see what's going on - my advice, keep your back against a wall...(but keep the 15 incher...)

If you are concerned about weight and size, get the 14". If you game in very fast, eg like Quake III or Unreal Tournament, games, get the 14". Otherwise, the 15" Flexview is the better bet.

Flexview is ever slightly brighter. Horizontal view angle is about the same for 14 and 15". The biggest difference is vertical view angle - you don't have to tilt the display as much on Flexview to get an optimal image.
90% of the time, I'd say the massive weight/size savings of the 14" make it a better deal, especially if you're going for SXGA+ anyways.
The best thing the 15" has going for it is the UXGA option. If the 14" had it, I'd have forgone the flexview for the better battery life and smaller size/weight.
That said, I'm still perfectly happy with the 15" and carry it around for hours every day.

Having used both of them before I made my decision I went with the 14" because I always have my laptop with me so the lighter it was and the longer the battery life the better. I love this screen and it's not like you have to be right in front of it to see the right colors, you can tilt from side to side quite a bit and the colors still stay great.
If you are concerned with travel weight, small footprint and battery, definitely 14", if this is more of a desktop replacement and you plan on watching DVD's and like the UXGA definitely 15".

Yeah, me too. If the 14" did 1600x1200 I'd be there. Heck, if the 12" X-series had 1440x1050 (Hey, the Tecra does that even through an image-distorting tablet film) I'd give up having an attached optical drivealeung wrote:well.. for me.. 1600x1200 is what i been waiting for in T series. otherwise i will go for 14"
Until then, I'm happy knowing that the extra size and weight of my 15" is nothing compared to the earth-moving monstrosities that are the HP Pavillions and Dell 8600s that everyone else is toting around.
