What are the essential downloads for the t41

#1 Post by lonewollf26 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 6:27 pm

There are so many things to download on the lenovo site , which ones are the essentials specifically for the t41.

Also how do I go about transferring files from my home computer to my laptop? I have a belkin router already set up. THANKS
Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make.

Check the Lenovo's page with T40/T41 downloads:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 46258.html

You may want to download the System Update application only. It will then scan your system and download the rest for you (with the ability to exclude the items you don't want).

I recommends installing these (as I have installed on my T41)

~Battery maximizer (gives battery indicator % on your taskbar)
~Hard drive Active Protection System (A Must! Protect your HDD from bumps)
~Keyboard Customizer Utility (I used that to "replace" my right ctrl button to acts as window button)
~Presentation Director (nice utilities for presentation -> Fn+F7)
~And Thinkpad Configuration Utilities (It takes care all of your hardwares and installs the drivers)

Other than that.... I think XP Pro SP2 pretty much covers it.
Easy eject <- I prefer the windows one.
Access Connection <- well... using SP2's wireless icon on the right corner is a lot easier

About transferring files.... I prefer using external hdd......
Wireless may sometimes disconnected if there are some signal yadayada so you have to retransfer the files again....

I don't want to start any arguing whether AC is good or not but it works quite well for me. I use my ThinkPad in quite a lot different networks including both LAN and WLAN, with static IPs and DHCPs. On one of them I have to go through an extra login procedure so I wrote a script that does this for me and AC starts it automatically. I don't have to touch anything (maybe besides plugging the LAN cable in in case of a wired network) and I'm always connected. Windows alone wouldn't be able to give me that.
