partitiiong using FDISK
partitiiong using FDISK
hi,
all ibm laptop hard disk has now got the hidden partition and this replaced the recovery cd
in order to do partition, using partition magic 8 doesnt work, it will, but if you need to do a "restorre to factory settings" it wouldnt, as told by ibm technical support staff today
so the safest way is :
back up your data first
go to dos, do FDISK, create partition from there.
restart, press ACCESS IBM, and "restore to factory setting", you will now recovery the "factory setting" image to C:\ and D:\ will be left alone as pure data drives.
but FDISK is a complicated matter. http://www.newlogic.co.uk/kbase/fdisk/page2.htm
when we come to the 2nd screenshot, do we pick 1 ?
if follow step2, will that delete our hidden partition as well ?
if the hidden partition is deleted, that means we cant restore to factory setting.
anyone can help ?
thx in advance

yes thx zeitgeist
i just asked for one today, they r checking and calling them back 2morow
sure partition magic 8, but alot of people said, if one day you need to "restore to factory settings" when you press the ACCESS IBM blue button at startup
sure the recovery image will still work on C:\, but it will be after you delete the partitions u made with partition magic 8
so that means it makes no difference whether u made partition with partition magic 8 or not
or zeitgeist, have u actually used partition magic 8 and then u have also tried to successfully "restore to factory settings" on start up and the recovery recovers to C:\ and D:\ is not affected ?

i havent touched a single thing from bios or anything about the hidden partitionNabeel wrote:Did you delete the hidden partition? Return to factory won't work if that partition is gone, iirc.
I made the BIOS show the partition, and then I merged it with the main one using Partition Magic, worked fine for me.
i of course didnt delete the partition
im doing all careful research b4 i do anything else to the ibm
so Nabeel, u r saying, u went to bios, show the partition, then use partition magic and merge that into C:\
and what happens next time when u do "restore to factory setting" ?
Yes, I restored the system to the factory settings after I have created an additional partition. Only the first partition was recovered. However, I had difficulties to recover data from the D partition.
I suggest that you install Rapid Restore 4.0
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54501
a VERY useful recovery software.
