T42 Guys please help me out here, i need a T42 with/but.....

#1 Post by Scorpiontico » Thu Dec 02, 2004 1:35 pm

hello all, i was told by the folks over notebookforums to come here for my "issue?"

guys what im asking is for some advice or guide you know... because i defetnally want a T42 BUT:

i need the following for it:

64 mb dedicated video card (from ati 9600 & up)
14" screen (no matter what display)
finger print reader device (this rocks!)

i dont care about anything else but those 3 things... the thing is that when i went on ibm.com i couldnt find that perfect system (at least for me) and nor in any other place... so please i know you are all the pros at ibm lappys!

thanks so much, im very exited becoming a T model owner

ps: should i wait for the new cpus laptops (ibm) like T43?

I WILL APRECCIATE ANY THOUGHTS AND ETC.

Answer #1 in the FAQ...

download TABOOK.pdf and start looking. :P

One of these models would have those requirements:

2373-K5U
2373-M1U
2373-M3U

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf

Go there to see more specs about them.

Now call up IBM or talk to Bill (owner of site) and you'll be all set. Don't wait for the t43's, they'll be pricey when then come out, and the t42's are great!

Enjoy your new thinkpad!

If you absolutely must have Bluetooth and SXGA+, then there are fewer choices. The closest configuration to what you are asking for is the 2373M1U and the 2373M3U. Both have Combo Drive, 1.7ghz processor, 512mb RAM, Bluetooth, SXGA+, 64mb Radeon 9600, and Fingerprint reader. The difference is the M1U has a 80gb HDD with 802.11a/b/g while the M3U has a 60gb HDD with 802.11b/g. If you don't need the Fingerprint reader, then consider the 23733UU which otherwise has the same specs as above, but with a 40gb HDD and 802.11a/b/g.

I hope that you don't mean space to place hundrets of icons on the desktop but space to work with programs...

Well, you have already mentioned the advantage of 1600*1200: More space. But there are also two disadvantages: Bigger footprint of the notebook and more weight.

And don't forget shorter battery life! But for me, the 16x12 is definitely worth the extra burden, and it's still much smaller and lighter than ost 15" notebooks.
