Problematic T41 startup on AC/Battery

#1 Post by sbux4622 » Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:47 am

I have just acquired a second hand T41 (2373-9FH). The system is 3.5 years old in excellent condition. Unfortunately I have just realized following powering up issue.

The system works fine if it is powered by battery without AC supply.

I cannot make the system running if AC is connected. Everything turn on except LCD (no backlight, no POST, no beep, keyboard no responce). To successfully turn on I must first disconnect AC, turn on the system and reconnect AC.

Any reply is appreciated, and thanks.

You can buy an AC adapter for 10$ on ebay, because if it powers on from battery, I'm about 100% sure it's a faulty AC adapter.

I doubt it is the a/C adapter. It is probably a problem with the power circuitry on the motherboard.

My bet would be on the motherboard power circuitry as well. I've owed 20-30 adapters and never had a problem. I've owned maybe half that number of Thinkpads and have seen the power circuitry power twice. None of the equipment was purchased new.

Thanks everyone's reply.

I have 3 adapaters, two are old one (16V, 3.36V) for TP600 and TP570, one is original for T41 (16V, 4.5A). All of them do not fix the problem.

To conclusion I run out of luck. Could anyone suggest a good solution? I mean any way to get an inexpensive system board. Mine is ATI9000. The worse thing is I am in Hong Kong, not US!

Thanks.
