Does anyone know if this is a major problem?
I just received my new 2373-5TU. This is the 3rd version of the same model that I've ordered over the past 2 months. I returned the first one because the colors didn't display smoothly and the previously sharp display became fuzzy after tech support helped me to upgrade the driver. The second T42 display was obviously fuzzy right out of the box, regardless of any tinkering with control panel settings.
At first glance, I thought I finally had my hands on a "perfect" T42! The screen is sharp with smooth colors, no stuck/dead pixels, the battery fits snugly, and the keyboard is excellent. However, the video memory failed two tests in PC-Doctor.
Here are the error codes:
PCDr2D3DVideo (805): Error at pixel (541,539): Input color 0 not equal to output color 2. Display mode: 640x480x8
Engine (1): Test Failed
I'm not into gaming and I don't use any graphics-intensive software. I'm not sure how important video memory would be to me anyway, but I don't like the idea that the tests failed. I'm hesitant to return this notebook for fear of what I might get on my 4th attempt. What's up with IBM's quality control?
Should I return this computer and try again? Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?
Lisa
New T42 failed video memory test
Lisa, give IBM a call and tell them you get that error code, if they cannot tell you exactly what it means and whether ir will affect your day to day usage, i am sure they will swap it for a new model. sorry i cant tell you what the error is....

Hello Lisa,
Welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear about your experience.
Have you tried some other software to test video memory?
According to the error message it looks like it is not the video memory error but error in the display at pixel 541,539.
I would test it with some other software before making final conclusion.
I personally don't know other graphic memory tester but I am sure other members can point you to the right direction.
