Screen flickers, goes dim, on T42. Not GPU issue.
Screen flickers, goes dim, on T42. Not GPU issue.
Hi all,
The screen on my T42 recently started flickering and going dim, almost black. Under a bright light, I can barely make out that the screen is actually still on but that it's just not back lit. The flickering/dimming problem occurs only when I adjust the angle of the display. I can revive the display by either (1) pressing Fn F3 or (2) by pressing and releasing the display button located above the Access IBM button. Sometimes I have to slightly adjust the screen angle in order to get it back up.
This is not the much more common GPU issue, as I can still barely see the images on screen and I do not need to reboot to bring the screen back on.
I also don't think it's a backlight problem, because the screen works fine, so long as I don't change the angle of the display. The problem never happens without moving the screen on its hinges. Also, when the display comes back on, it's perfect (no red tinge, colors and brightness are fine etc.).
So I'm thinking that maybe the LCD connectors have come slightly loose, so when I move the hinges the screen goes off. But I don't have much (or any!) experience diagnosing screen issues.
Any other ideas???
Thanks!
