T43p-Fan died - IBM replaced 3xFan, 1xSytemboard; 1xCPU
Hi all!
Just to keep you updated about my never ending story ...
Now they replaced the fan the 3rd time and the CPU ... still the same ... temps are lower but fan runs between 4000 and 4300 rpm and drives me crazy.
Tech guy said that he has no idea what else he could do and I should call Lenovo.
What should I tell them?

Hi, what are all the temps now ? It is my understanding that the firmware sets the fan speed according to what it measures in all the temp sensors... so it may be that it is the GPU or other sensor that is still indicating heat and shooting the fan high. Failing this, I'm affraid your motherboard may have a problem.

Just noticed that your are using Fan Control 0.18 whereas I am using 0.25svc on my T43. If I set my fan control to Bios, the fan speeds up to over 4000 and then drops back to just over 3000. (I am only running Firefox at present.) Set to Smart mode and fan speed drops to 0 until temp goes over 55 deg C. (GPU is at 54 deg C)

When I right click the FanControl icon and activate "Smart Mode" the software strats beeping and I get error warning in the Log window.
Do you know why?

If you continue to have problems after a Lenovo authorized repair, you should call Lenovo customer service and discuss the issue with them. If you recall, I mentioned that I've had fan/MB issues with my machine. They replaced the system board a third time recently and said that next time they will just replace the machine.tomkit66 wrote: They replaced the motherboard 2 weeks ago....

PM me and I can give you more info.
Hi,
Lookig at your temps and fan levels now it can be seen why your fan is spinning at 4000 RPMs. You have set the level to switch to 4K RPM at 60ºC and the GPU is running at 64ºC, so this is normal behavior. Your temps are however normal. The GPU could still be a bit coulder, but it is OK. So my suggestion is to change the threshold levels. To give you an idea I have the following settings :
Off->Level 3 (low) : 57ºC
3 (low)->4 (middle) : 67ºC
4 (middle) -> 7 (high) : 75ºC (this is 4K RPM)
7 (high) -> 0x80 (max) : 87ºC

How can I change the temp levels?
I told the tech guy the last time that it is no wonder why the fan runs at level 7 all the time because the temp levels are set to those levels.
He didn´t seem to know how to change the levels so he said nothing....
